The West Indies flag: maroon and the palm tree crest

The West Indies flag in this collection is the maroon flag with a crest showing a palm tree growing on a small island, the emblem and colour that cricket fans know as the Windies. Unlike most flags on this site it does not belong to a single country: West Indies cricket brings together players from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Antigua, St Lucia, Grenada and the other Caribbean nations and territories into one team, and the maroon is worn by all of them. It should not be confused with the blue and white flag of the short-lived West Indies Federation of 1958 to 1962. Our West Indies flag prints the crest in full colour on deep maroon.

Test matches, carnival and Caribbean Britain

When the West Indies tour England the flag is everywhere at Lord’s, the Oval, Edgbaston and Old Trafford, often alongside steel drums, conch shells and the famous Caribbean party stands. Many British fans first followed the great sides of the 1970s and 1980s, and the flag is still a link to that era for families of Windrush heritage. It also appears at Notting Hill Carnival, Leeds West Indian Carnival and community cricket clubs across the country.

Sizes, grades, bunting and table flag

The West Indies flag comes in 20x12in, 3ft x 2ft, 5ft x 3ft and 8ft x 5ft, from £6.99, in Flagtex (printed lightweight woven polyester with eyelets) or DuraFlag, a heavier knitted West Indies flag with double-stitched hems and clips or rope and toggle. West Indies bunting comes in 3m and 9m from £9.98, and the West Indies table flag is 6x4in on a base from £1.98. Island flags are under Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago flags.
