Signal code flags and nautical bunting

The International Code of Signals gives every letter of the alphabet and every numeral its own flag or pennant, so that a vessel can spell a message or hoist a single-flag meaning that any crew in the world can read: A for a diver down, B for dangerous cargo, O for man overboard, P (the Blue Peter) for about to sail, Q for requesting pratique. The DuraFlag signal code flags here are stocked one letter or numeral at a time, A to Z and 0 to 9, each 20x12in in 150gsm knitted polyester with a rope and toggle so it bends onto a halyard, from £12. Pick the letters you need for a boat name, a yacht club burgee line, a sailing school teaching the code or a chandlery wall display, and a hoist of three or four spells out a name over a bar or a wedding marquee.

Nautical bunting

Nautical bunting is the whole code strung on one tape: the full run of signal flags in sequence, repeated along 12m or 25m lengths, from £17.99. It is what dresses a sailing club for an open day, a harbour-front pub for regatta week, a yacht at a rally, a beach hut or a nautical-themed wedding and christening, and the 25m length is long enough to run bow to stern on most club boats or across a marquee twice. For more lengths and designs, including string-of-flags sets for dressing overall, see the nautical signal code bunting collection.

Signal code flag FAQs

Can I buy a single signal code letter?

Yes. Each letter A to Z and numeral 0 to 9 is sold on its own in 20x12in DuraFlag with a rope and toggle, so you only buy the characters you need.

What size are the signal code flags?

20x12in (50 x 30cm), the standard small size for a yacht halyard, a club flagstaff or a wall display. Larger sizes are a custom order.

What is the nautical bunting made of?

Printed polyester signal flags stitched to a tape in sequence, in 12m and 25m lengths with ties at each end, for dressing a boat, a clubhouse or a party.

Which signal flags spell a name?

Use one letter flag per character in order, hoisted top to bottom. Repeated letters need a second copy of that flag, since the substitute pennants are a maritime convention most decorators skip.

Are these proper International Code of Signals colours?

Yes, the standard red, blue, yellow, white and black of the ICS so that each flag reads correctly to anyone who knows the code.

Do you stock pirate flags and ensigns as well?

Pirate flags have their own hub, national flags for ensigns are under world flags, and courtesy flags in DuraFlag grade are in the nautical DuraFlags collection.
