Large Flags – 8ft x 5ft & Giant Flags

Large flags: which size is right?

A large flag usually means the 8ft x 5ft size (240 x 150cm). It is the biggest standard size for flags flown on a pole, and the size churches, councils, schools, pubs, clubs and businesses choose for a building or a tall mast. It is also the flag people take to a stadium, a festival or a parade when they want it seen from the back of the crowd. For a bigger flag again we stock the 3 yard size (270 x 145cm) on selected designs.

The rule of thumb is that the flag should be about a quarter to a third of the pole height. An 8ft x 5ft flag suits a pole of around 8m to 12m (25ft to 40ft); on a smaller garden pole a 5ft x 3ft flag will fly better. The flag size guide has the full pole chart.

Large England flags, Union Jacks and home nations

The most popular large flags are the England flag (the St George cross), the Union Jack, the Scotland flag, the Welsh flag and the Irish flag, all in 8ft x 5ft. Every country flag in the world flags range and most county flags come in the large size too.

Printed or DuraFlag?

Our standard large flags are printed polyester with a strong header and two metal eyelets, good for events, stands and occasional flying. For a flag that flies every day on a building, choose the DuraFlag grade where it is offered: heavier fabric, reinforced fly end and stitched for long use outdoors.
