Religious Flags – Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Vatican & Faith Flags

Flags of faith

Every tradition in this collection has a flag that is flown on its own terms, and the job here is to stock them properly rather than to rank them. The Christian flag is the white field with a blue canton and red cross first raised in New York in 1897 and now flown by churches, Sunday schools and missions across the denominations. The Sikh flag carries the Khanda on saffron, the design of the Nishan Sahib that flies above every gurdwara and is renewed each Vaisakhi, and it is held here as a flag, as Sikh bunting, as hand flags for the Nagar Kirtan procession and as a table flag. The Buddhist flag is the six-column design of blue, yellow, red, white and orange adopted in Colombo in 1885 and used worldwide for Vesak, with Buddhist bunting for a temple or a meditation centre. The Hindu flag is the saffron Om, flown at mandirs and for Diwali and Navratri.

Vatican, Papal and the Christian traditions

The Vatican City flag, yellow and white with the crossed keys and tiara, is stocked from 20x12in to 8ft x 5ft in Flagtex or DuraFlag with bunting, hand flags and a table flag for a papal visit, a parish feast or a Catholic school; the Papal flag and St Peter flag sit beside it. The Greek Orthodox Church flag with the double-headed eagle on yellow serves Orthodox parishes and festivals, the Jerusalem Cross flag is the crusader-era cross potent with four smaller crosses, and the Jesus Loves You and Jesus Now and Forever flags are the ones for a church fete gate or an outreach tent. The Lion of Judah flag is flown by Rastafarian and Ethiopian Orthodox communities alike.

Orders, heritage and the rest

The Knights Templar flag and the Templar red cross are stocked up to a 8ft x 5ft DuraFlag for re-enactment societies, lodges and medieval fairs, and the Masonic flag with the square and compasses serves Masonic halls and Ladies’ Festivals. The Gypsy flag, blue over green with the red chakra wheel, is the international Romani flag adopted in 1971, held here with bunting and a satin table flag for Appleby and Stow fairs. The Mardi Gras flag in purple, green and gold comes with bunting, hand flags and a wooden table flag for Shrove Tuesday parties, and the Star of David Rainbow, World Tree of Life, Atheist and Baphomet flags complete a range that stocks what people ask for without taking a side.

Sizes, grades and fittings

The Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Hindu, Vatican, Gypsy, Masonic and both Templar flags are stocked from a 20x12in courtesy size through 3ft x 2ft and 5ft x 3ft in Flagtex woven polyester, with a 150gsm knitted DuraFlag option on clips or rope and toggle for a flagpole that flies the design all year; the Buddhist, Templar and Vatican flags go up to 8ft x 5ft. The remaining designs are 5ft x 3ft at £7.99, which suits a wall, a stall or a 6m garden pole. Bunting is in 3m and 9m, hand flags in 9x6in and 18x12in, and table flags are 6x4in on a base.
