The Ulster flag is a red cross on a gold field, with a white shield at the centre carrying a red right hand.
The gold and red cross comes from the arms of the de Burgh Earls of Ulster, and the red hand from the O'Neills, the province's most powerful Gaelic dynasty. The flag represents the historic nine-county province, including Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan, and fills one quarter of the four provinces flag.
Ulster rugby crowds at Ravenhill, GAA supporters from the nine counties and Irish heritage groups fly it.
