Seborga is a small hill village in Liguria, a few miles inland from Sanremo and the Italian Riviera, with a long-running local tradition of calling itself a principality. Its flag has horizontal stripes of blue and white across the field, with a white panel at the hoist carrying a gold crown above a blue shield charged with a white cross. The blue and white echo the village’s arms, and the crown represents the principality tradition. Seborga has its own elected prince or princess, mints a souvenir coin called the luigino and keeps a striped sentry box on the road into the village, all of which make the flag popular with visitors.
