The Syrian flag: three red stars on green, white and black

The flag of Syria is a horizontal tricolour of green, white and black with three red five-pointed stars across the white band. It was first adopted in 1932, when Syria was under the French mandate, and was the flag of the independent republic from 1946 until 1958; its colours are the pan-Arab green, white, black and red, and the three stars originally stood for the districts of Aleppo, Damascus and Deir ez-Zor. It was readopted as the national flag in December 2024, having been used by the opposition through the preceding years, which is why our stock listing still carries the name Syria Rebel flag. It is stocked in 20x12in, 3ft x 2ft, 5ft x 3ft and 8ft x 5ft in Flagtex and DuraFlag. The Syria (two-star) flag, red, white and black with two green stars, was the national flag from 1980 to 2024 and the design of the 1958 to 1961 union with Egypt before that; it is stocked in the same sizes and grades. Both are listed as flags that exist and are flown, with no comment on the politics of either.

Evacuation Day, community events and Syrians in Britain

Syria’s national day is Evacuation Day on 17 April, marking the departure of the last French troops in 1946. Syrian communities in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bradford, Glasgow and Cardiff fly the flag at community dinners, Eid gatherings, cultural festivals, graduations and restaurant openings, and Syrian bakeries and restaurants keep a table flag on the counter. On the sport side the Qasioun Eagles, the national football team, play Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers that fill cafés with hand flags. Which size Syria flag?

5ft x 3ft is the size for a restaurant front, a garden pole, a hall or a party; 3ft x 2ft for a bedroom, a stall or a short pole; 8ft x 5ft for a flagpole or a stage; 20x12in for a car window or a hand pole. Every size comes with a sewn header and brass eyelets, and the DuraFlag grade takes clips or a rope and toggle.

Flagtex or DuraFlag?

Flagtex is the printed woven polyester at £6.99 for a 5ft x 3ft, the grade for a celebration, a match or a few weeks on a pole. DuraFlag is the 150gsm knitted polyester with double-stitched hems and a reinforced header for a flag outside a community centre or a restaurant all year. Both grades are stocked in and dispatched from our Stoke-on-Trent warehouse, same day on orders placed before 2pm.

Syria bunting

Syria bunting is currently stocked in the two-star design, on rectangular pennants in 3m and 9m lengths on weatherproof polyester sewn to a tape. 3m frames a doorway or a sweet table; 9m runs a restaurant or a hall. Bunting in the three-star flag is not yet in the range; for a mixed run, plain green, white and black bunting from the bunting page gives the national colours.

Hand flags and table flags

Syria hand flags on wooden sticks, in the two-star design, come in 9x6in and 18x12in. Table flags cover both designs: the three-star Syria table flag and the two-star Syria table flag with base are the 6x4in desk flags, with a wooden table flag and a satin table flag on a chrome base in the two-star design. Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey are under world flags.
