The Central African Republic flag: Boganda's design

The flag of the Central African Republic has four horizontal stripes of blue, white, green and yellow, crossed down the middle by a vertical red band, with a five-pointed yellow star in the upper hoist. It was designed by Barthélemy Boganda, the founding father of the republic, and adopted in 1958. Boganda wanted the flag to show that Europeans and Africans should respect one another, so he combined the blue, white and red of France with the green, yellow and red of pan-Africanism. The red band, shared by both sets of colours, stands for the blood that unites humanity, and the star for independence. Independence Day and Central Africans in Britain

The Central African Republic became independent from France on 13 August 1960. The Dzanga-Sangha reserve in the south-west is known for forest elephants and western lowland gorillas. The Central African community in Britain is small, so the flag is often wanted by schools running Africa projects, by charities and by flag collectors filling a world set.
