The Marshall Islands flag: two chains and a 24-point star

The Marshall Islands flag is a blue field with two stripes, orange above white, that run diagonally from the lower hoist and widen towards the upper fly. In the canton is a white star with twenty-four points, four of them longer than the rest. The blue is the Pacific Ocean, and the stripes the two parallel island chains, Ratak, the sunrise chain, in white, and Ralik, the sunset chain, in orange. Their widening shape is said to show the nation's growth. The star's points stood for the municipalities at the time of adoption, and the four long ones form a cross that reflects the islanders' Christian faith.
