The North Korea flag: design and history

The flag of North Korea, officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea or DPRK, was adopted on 8 September 1948. Across the middle runs a broad red band, bordered above and below by thin white stripes and then by blue stripes along the top and bottom edges. In the red band, towards the hoist, is a white disc holding a red five-pointed star. The flag replaced the earlier taegukgi design that both halves of the peninsula used immediately after 1945. Our North Korea flag is printed with the bands in the correct proportions and the star centred in the disc.

Who buys North Korea flags

Our customers for this flag are mostly collectors completing a set of national flags, film, television and theatre productions that need accurate set dressing, schools and universities running model United Nations sessions or history lessons, and sports fans at international events such as women’s football or the Olympics where North Korean teams compete. Quiz nights and themed parties use the table flags and bunting as part of a set of world flags.
