The Aruba flag: star, sea and sunshine
Aruba's flag is a light blue field crossed near the bottom by two narrow yellow stripes, with a red four-pointed star edged in white in the upper hoist. The blue is usually read as the sea and sky, and the four points of the star as the points of the compass, a reminder that Arubans trace their roots to many lands. The flag was adopted on 18 March 1976, and on 1 January 1986 Aruba left the Netherlands Antilles to become a separate country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, an arrangement known as Status Aparte. The Aruba flag we stock keeps the white edge to the star sharp against the blue.
Flag Day, carnival and Aruba fans
Flag and Anthem Day on 18 March is Aruba's national day, with parades in Oranjestad and the flag on every balcony. Carnival builds through January and February. In the UK the flag turns up at holiday-themed parties, Dutch Caribbean gatherings and among the many visitors who return to Eagle Beach and Palm Beach year after year.
