The Anguilla flag: three dolphins on a Blue Ensign

Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory in the eastern Caribbean, and its flag follows the pattern of a Blue Ensign: a dark blue field with the Union Flag in the upper hoist. On the fly sits the island's shield, showing three orange dolphins leaping in a circle on white above a band of turquoise sea. The dolphins are said to stand for friendship, wisdom and strength. The emblem dates from the 1967 Anguilla Revolution, when islanders broke away from the union with St Kitts and Nevis, and the present ensign was adopted in 1990. Our Anguilla flag shows the shield clearly enough to pick out the dolphins at a distance.

Anguilla Day, Summer Festival and the diaspora

Anguilla Day on 30 May remembers the 1967 revolution and is marked with a round-the-island boat race. In August the Summer Festival fills Sandy Ground with more boat racing, calypso and parades. Anguillans in the UK, with a long-established community in Slough, put the flag up for these dates, for Caribbean carnival and for family celebrations.

Sizes, grades and fittings

Anguilla flags come in 20x12in, 3ft x 2ft, 5ft x 3ft and 8ft x 5ft from £6.99. For a garden pole the 5ft x 3ft is the safe pick; the 20x12in suits a window or a car. Flagtex is the economical printed grade for events and indoor use, and DuraFlag the tougher knitted grade made for long spells on a pole, finished with eyelets, clips or rope and toggle.

Anguilla bunting

Anguilla bunting repeats the Blue Ensign and dolphin shield on rectangular flags in 3m and 9m strings, for a carnival float, a beach-themed party or a community hall.

Hand flags and table flags

Anguilla hand flags on wooden sticks come in 9x6in and 18x12in. The Anguilla table flag is 6x4in on a base, and the large wooden table flag 18x12in. The British Virgin Islands and other Caribbean islands are among our world flags.
