The North Riding flag for North Yorkshire

The flag we stock for North Yorkshire is the flag of the North Riding, the northern of Yorkshire’s three historic ridings: a green field with a blue cross edged in yellow, the upright set towards the hoist, and a white Yorkshire rose at the crossing. The Nordic-style cross recalls the Viking settlers who gave the ridings their name, from the Old Norse for “a third part”. Today’s North Yorkshire, created in 1974, takes in most of the North Riding plus Harrogate, Ripon, Selby and Skipton from the old West Riding, so the North Riding flag is the one people fly for the county from Scarborough to the Yorkshire Dales.
