The Kirkcudbrightshire flag: a green and white cross

The Kirkcudbrightshire flag is quartered green and white, with a slender cross whose arms split at the tips, coloured the opposite way in each quarter so that it reads white on green and green on white. The flag belongs to the old county known as the Stewartry, the eastern half of Galloway between the Nith and the Cree. Our Kirkcudbrightshire flag is held in both grades.

Sizes, grades and where it flies

The Flagtex flag is 5ft x 3ft at £7.99, printed woven polyester with brass eyelets. The DuraFlag, knitted polyester with double-stitched hems and a rope and toggle, comes in 20x12in at £14.99, 3ft x 2ft at £29.99 and 5ft x 3ft at £39.99. It goes up over the artists’ town of Kirkcudbright and its harbour, the food town of Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie and Gatehouse of Fleet, the dark-sky park in the Galloway Forest, the caravan sites along the Solway coast from Kippford to Sandyhills, and on the boats of the Stewartry fishing fleet. On a pole facing the Solway, the DuraFlag will last much longer.

More Scottish flags

The saltire, the lion rampant and Scottish bunting are under Scotland flags; Caithness, Aberdeenshire and the Isle of Skye have their own pages under county and regional flags, and the Caithness flags hub adds bunting and table flags.

Kirkcudbrightshire flag FAQs

What does the Kirkcudbrightshire flag look like?

Green and white quarters with a narrow cross with forked ends, counterchanged so each part of the cross takes the opposite colour.

Why is Kirkcudbrightshire called the Stewartry?

Because it was governed by a steward on behalf of the Crown rather than by a sheriff, so it was a stewartry rather than a sheriffdom.

What sizes are available?

Flagtex in 5ft x 3ft, and DuraFlag in 20x12in, 3ft x 2ft and 5ft x 3ft with rope and toggle.

Do you sell Kirkcudbrightshire bunting?

Not at present; the county flag in two grades is the Kirkcudbrightshire range for now.

How fast can a Kirkcudbrightshire flag arrive?

The flag is stocked in and dispatched from our Stoke-on-Trent warehouse, sent the same day for orders before 2pm, with free UK delivery in 1–2 days across Dumfries and Galloway.
