The Oxfordshire Old flag is the earlier, arms-based version of the county flag, centred on an ox crossing a ford with wavy bars beneath it for the rivers.
The ox and ford is a rebus that has stood for Oxford since the city's medieval seal, giving the county its name. This design was flown on civic poles before the county's flag was registered with the Flag Institute in 2017, and many villages still fly it.
It suits anyone matching an older display or pole in the county, from college lodges to village fêtes and Thames-side clubs.
