The United Arab Emirates flag has a vertical red band at the hoist and three horizontal bands of green, white and black across the fly.

It was adopted on 2 December 1971, when the emirates united, and was designed by Abdullah Mohammed Al Maainah. The Pan-Arab colours stand for unity among Arab nations.
