The Shetland flag is a white Nordic cross on a sky blue field, the cross set towards the hoist.
Designed in 1969 by Roy Grønneberg and Bill Adams for the five-hundredth anniversary of the islands passing from Norway to Scotland, it combines Scotland's colours with the Scandinavian cross. It was flown unofficially for decades and was approved by the Lord Lyon in 2005.
It is flown everywhere at Up Helly Aa in Lerwick each January, at the Island Games and by Shetland folk around the world.
- Shetlands Flag sizes: 20x12in (50 x 30 cm), 3ft x 2ft (90 x 60 cm), 5ft x 3ft (150 x 90 cm), 8ft x 5ft (240 x 150 cm)
- Grades: DuraFlag 150gsm knitted polyester with a reinforced header and four rows of stitching; Flagtex woven polyester, a light, bright economy grade with eyelets
- Fittings: eyelets, rope and toggle
