The Schleswig-Holstein flag has three horizontal bands of blue, white and red.

The colours come from the arms of the two duchies: blue lions on gold for Schleswig and a white nettle leaf on red for Holstein. They were first used together in the 1840s and have been the state colours since after the Second World War.

It suits visitors to Kiel Week, Sylt and Lübeck, Holstein Kiel supporters and sailors on the Baltic.
