The Saarland flag is the German black, red and gold tricolour with the state coat of arms in the centre.
The Saar joined the Federal Republic in 1957 after a period under French administration, and its arms combine the emblems of the historic territories that make up the state: Nassau-Saarbrücken, the Electorate of Trier, the Duchy of Lorraine and Palatinate-Zweibrücken.
It suits supporters of 1. FC Saarbrücken, visitors to the Saar loop and collectors of German state flags. The Saarland Flag is printed on woven polyester, a lightweight cloth that flies easily and folds away for the next occasion.
