The Northamptonshire Old flag takes the heraldic route, showing the former council's arms: a red cross on a white shield flanked by a white stag and a black bull, the Tudor rose, and the motto Rosa Concordia Signum.
It is based on the arms of the former Northamptonshire County Council; the Latin motto means the rose is the sign of harmony, a nod to the county's nickname, the Rose of the Shires. It flew on civic buildings before the simpler maroon and gold flag was adopted.
It suits anyone who prefers the traditional heraldic version, for village halls, civic displays and county history events.
