On a maroon field the Northamptonshire flag carries a gold cross outlined in black, with a maroon rose and green sepals at its heart.
The county has long been called the Rose of the Shires, and maroon and gold are its traditional colours, worn by the county cricket club. The cross shape recalls the Eleanor crosses raised by Edward I, two of which still stand at Geddington and Hardingstone.
It flies at county cricket at Wantage Road, around Silverstone on race weekends, at village shows and on civic buildings across the county.
