Nauru Flag

Nauru flies a dark blue flag divided by a thin gold line across its middle, with a twelve-point white star sitting just beneath that line close to the pole.

Adopted at independence on 31 January 1968, the design is a map in miniature: the ocean in blue, the equator in gold and the island as a star just south of it. The twelve points represent the island's twelve original tribes.

It is flown on Independence Day, 31 January, at the Pacific and Commonwealth Games, and by schools and collectors assembling a full set of world flags.
