Montserrat Flag

Montserrat's flag is a British Blue Ensign: Union Flag at the upper hoist, island arms in the fly. Those arms show Erin, the personification of Ireland, dressed in green, with a golden harp in one hand and the other arm around a dark cross.

The arms date from 1909 and recall the Irish settlers who arrived in the seventeenth century, which is why Montserrat is known as the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean. The ensign remains the flag of this British Overseas Territory.

It flies on St Patrick's Day, a public holiday on the island, at Caribbean carnivals and Montserratian community events in London, and in British Overseas Territory flag sets.
