Two red horizontal bars cross the white field of the Westmorland flag, and over them stands a gold apple tree carrying seven apples.
Both bars and tree come from the arms granted in 1926 to Westmorland County Council, the tree being the ancient emblem of Appleby, the old county town. The county was absorbed into Cumbria in 1974, but the flag keeps its identity alive.
It flies at Appleby Horse Fair in June, at Kendal and Lake District shows and in villages from Kirkby Stephen to Windermere.
