West Virginia Flag

Description

The West Virginia Flag was officially adopted in 1929, and its design incorporates the state's coat of arms, which has been used since 1863 when West Virginia became a state during the Civil War. The flag's central emblem includes two figures: a miner holding a pickaxe and a farmer holding a plow, symbolizing the state's agricultural and mining industries. The crossed rifles represent the state's role in defending the Union during the Civil War. The blue border and the phrase "Montani Semper Liberi" reinforce West Virginia's identity as a strong and independent state, proud of its mountainous landscape and historical significance.

The West Virginia Flag is flown at government buildings, public events, and during state holidays like West Virginia Day, which is celebrated on June 20th, commemorating the state's admission to the Union. It is also seen during national holidays, especially when honoring the state's veterans, as well as in parades, festivals, and gatherings that celebrate the unique culture and heritage of West Virginia. The flag is flown proudly across the state, from small towns to the state's capital, Charleston, to remind citizens of their shared history and values.

The West Virginia Flag serves as a proud display of the state's heritage and pride. Whether flown during national holidays, displayed at local events, or kept in private collections, this flag represents the strength and unity of West Virginia. Made from high-quality materials, the flag is designed for durability and resilience, ensuring it remains a lasting symbol of West Virginia's history, culture, and independence for years to come.
