US Virgin Islands DuraFlag

The US Virgin Islands flag is a white field with a simplified golden yellow eagle from the Great Seal of the United States. The eagle carries the US shield on its breast, a sprig of laurel in one talon and three blue arrows in the other, between the blue letters V and I.

Designed by Percival Dennison, it was adopted in 1921, a few years after the United States bought the islands from Denmark in 1917. The three arrows stand for the main islands of St Croix, St Thomas and St John.

It flies for Transfer Day on 31 March and Emancipation Day on 3 July, at Caribbean carnivals and in yacht clubs and holiday homes linked to the islands.
