The Tasmania flag is a Blue Ensign with the Union Flag in the canton and, in the fly, a white disc carrying a red lion passant.

The lion badge dates from the 1870s and the flag was formally proclaimed in 1975. The island, known as Van Diemen's Land until 1856, was the second Australian colony to be settled by Europeans.
