The old South Africa flag has three horizontal bands of orange, white and blue, with three small flags in the centre of the white: the Union Flag, a horizontal Orange Free State flag and the Transvaal Vierkleur.
Based on the Prinsenvlag of the Dutch Republic, it was adopted in 1928 and remained the national flag until April 1994, when the present six-colour flag replaced it with the arrival of democratic government. Because it flew through the apartheid era, it is today a historical item.
It is mainly bought by collectors, historians and museums documenting South African history.
