The New Zealand flag is a Blue Ensign with the Union Flag in the canton and four red five-pointed stars, edged in white, representing the Southern Cross in the fly.
Adopted in 1902, it reflects the country's ties to Britain and its place in the South Pacific. Referendums in 2015 and 2016 considered replacing it with a silver fern design, and voters chose to keep the existing flag.
New Zealanders in the UK fly it on Waitangi Day, 6 February, and Anzac Day, 25 April, and at All Blacks tests and cricket tours.
