Mercia DuraFlag

The Mercia flag is a gold saltire, the diagonal cross of St Andrew, on a blue field.

The design follows the arms that later heralds attributed to the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia, which under Offa in the eighth century dominated England south of the Humber from its centres at Tamworth and Lichfield. The gold saltire on blue is flown today across the Midlands as a regional flag.

It flies at Tamworth Castle events, Anglo-Saxon re-enactments and Staffordshire Hoard exhibitions, and in Midlands gardens and pubs celebrating the heritage of the old kingdom. The Mercia DuraFlag is built for long spells outdoors, with a stitched header and fabric that resists fraying at the fly.
