Jersey Flag

The Jersey flag is a red saltire, a diagonal cross, on a white field, with the island's badge in the upper arm: a red shield with three gold lions passant beneath a gold Plantagenet crown.

The red saltire on white was used for Jersey from the eighteenth century; the badge and crown were added at the end of the 1970s and the new flag first flew officially in April 1981. The three lions recall the island's ties with the Dukes of Normandy and the English Crown since 1204.

It flies on Liberation Day, 9 May, at the Battle of Flowers in August, for the Muratti against Guernsey and at Jersey associations and holiday homes.
