Tipperary colours: blue and gold
The GAA was founded in Hayes’ Hotel in Thurles in 1884, and Tipperary has worn blue and gold ever since the association sorted its county colours, so the Premier County has a claim on these two colours that no other county disputes. The Blue and Gold Irish county flag is the supporters’ flag, the two colours side by side in vertical halves with no crest, the design that lines the Liberty Square in Thurles and the approaches to Semple Stadium on a Munster hurling final day and that was everywhere in the summer of 2025 when the hurlers brought Liam MacCarthy home again. It is stocked in 3ft x 2ft, 5ft x 3ft and 8ft x 5ft in Flagtex woven polyester with brass eyelets from £6.99, the 5ft x 3ft being the car-window-and-garden-pole size and the 8ft x 5ft the one for a pub gable in Nenagh, Clonmel, Cashel or Carrick-on-Suir.
Tipperary and South Tipperary DuraFlags
The Tipperary DuraFlag carries the county’s own colours and symbols in 150gsm knitted polyester, 20x12in at £14.99 or 5ft x 3ft at £39.99 with clips or a rope and toggle, for a flagpole that flies it all year outside a club, a hotel or a Tipp bar in London or New York. A South Tipperary DuraFlag in the same grade and sizes covers the old South Riding council area from Clonmel to Cahir and Tipperary town.
Bunting and hand flags
Royal blue and yellow alternating bunting is the street-dressing option: pennants in the county colours in turn, in 3m, 5m, 9m, 12m and 20m lengths as rectangles or triangles, from £9.98. A 20m run covers a shopfront and the pub next door; 5m dresses a front gate. Blue and gold large hand flags, 18x12in on a 60cm pole, are the match-day waver for the Kinane Stand or the Hill. Every other county, from Clare across the Shannon to Kilkenny over the river, is in the Irish county flags hub, and the tricolour, provinces and Erin Go Bragh are in Irish flags.
Tipperary flag FAQs
What are the Tipperary colours?
Blue and gold, worn by the county hurlers and footballers since the early years of the GAA. The Blue and Gold Irish county flag is the plain two-colour supporters’ flag.
Is the Blue and Gold county flag only for Tipperary?
No; Longford and Clare also fly blue and gold, and Wicklow’s blue and gold is close. The plain two-colour design has no crest, so it serves any of them.
What is the difference between the Tipperary DuraFlag and the county colours flag?
The DuraFlag is the county’s own design in heavyweight knitted polyester for daily flying on a pole. The colours flag is a lighter Flagtex two-colour flag for match days, car windows and bedroom walls.
How long is the blue and gold bunting?
3m, 5m, 9m, 12m or 20m, in rectangle or triangle pennants, alternating royal blue and yellow.
Which size Tipperary flag for a garden pole?
5ft x 3ft on a 6m garden or telescopic pole. Go to 8ft x 5ft only for a fixed pole of 20ft or more or a large gable wall.
Do you stock a South Tipperary flag?
Yes, a South Tipperary DuraFlag in 20x12in and 5ft x 3ft, alongside the all-county Tipperary DuraFlag.
