The Orange Free State DuraFlag

The Orange Free State flag has seven horizontal stripes, four white and three orange, with the Dutch red, white and blue tricolour in the upper hoist canton.

It was adopted in 1857 for the Boer republic between the Orange and Vaal rivers, the orange recalling the House of Orange-Nassau and the canton the Netherlands. The republic was annexed by Britain in 1900 and the flag left official use, though an orange band in the later South African flag kept its memory alive.

Collectors of historical African flags, Boer War re-enactors and museums display it, as do people with Free State family history. Knitted polyester lets the wind pass through the weave, so the The Orange Free State DuraFlag keeps its shape and colour on a pole that stays up for months.
