Galway colours: maroon and white
Galway plays in maroon and white, the colours of the Tribesmen, hurling All-Ireland champions as recently as 2017 and football champions nine times, and the maroon flies from Pearse Stadium in Salthill and the hurling heartland of Athenry, Loughrea and Portumna out to Connemara, the Aran Islands and the Galway bars of London, Boston and Chicago. The Maroon and White Irish county flag is the supporters’ flag, a plain vertical half of maroon and half of white with no crest, and it is stocked from a 20x12in courtesy size through 3ft x 2ft and 5ft x 3ft to 8ft x 5ft in Flagtex woven polyester with brass eyelets from £6.99, with a 150gsm DuraFlag version on clips or a rope and toggle up to £39.99 for a pole that flies the colours all year.
The Galway DuraFlag
The Galway DuraFlag is the county’s own design in knitted polyester with double-stitched hems, 20x12in at £14.99 and 5ft x 3ft at £39.99. It is the pole flag for a Salthill guesthouse, a Quay Street pub, a Claddagh boat, a GAA club in Britain or a race-week hospitality tent at Ballybrit, and the one to send to a relative abroad who wants Galway itself rather than the colours alone.
Bunting for race week and the championship
Maroon and white triangle bunting in 5m, 12m and 20m from £11.99 strings the colours along Shop Street for the Galway Races in late July, the Arts Festival, the Oyster Festival and any Sunday the hurlers or footballers are in Croke Park. A 20m length spans a street; 12m dresses a pub and 5m a garden gate. The Connacht flag and the tricolour are in Irish flags, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Leitrim are under Irish county flags, and the crest DuraFlags for every county are under Irish county colours DuraFlags.
