Plain coloured flags: one colour, no design

A plain coloured flag is a single solid shade of polyester with a sewn header and eyelets and nothing printed on it, and it is one of the most useful flags we stock. The plain coloured flag listing lets you choose the shade and the size in one go, and each colour also has its own page: plain red, plain white, plain blue, plain black, plain yellow, plain green, plain orange, plain pink, plain purple, navy blue, sky blue, teal, turquoise, cerise, maroon, gold/khaki and neon green. The colours are dyed through the cloth, so there is no front and back and no printed side to fade first.

Signal flags, marshals and warning flags

Plain flags are the working flags of motorsport and athletics: a red flag stops a session, a yellow flag warns of a hazard, green clears the track, blue tells a driver to let a faster car through and a black flag calls someone in, so kart tracks, motocross clubs, cycling circuits, sailing clubs and marshal posts buy the 20x12in and 3ft x 2ft sizes in sets. A plain red flag is the long-standing danger signal on firing ranges, at quarries and on beaches where swimming is unsafe, a white flag marks a start or finish line, a neutral zone or, as everyone knows, a truce, and a black flag flies for a period of mourning or at half-mast alongside a national flag. Golf courses use plain pin flags, show jumping and equestrian events mark their courses in red and white, and regattas and sailing clubs use solid colours for class and course signals.

Team colours, school houses and events

The other big use is identification: school sports days with red, blue, green and yellow houses, cub and scout camps, outdoor pursuits centres, summer camps and Colour Run events all want a flag per team, with the plain coloured hand flags on sticks for the children and the 3ft x 2ft or 5ft x 3ft on a pole for each base. Event organisers use solid flags to colour-code car parks, entrances, first-aid points and meeting points, hospitals and warehouses to mark zones, and wedding and party planners to pull a colour scheme together with matching pink, purple, orange or green bunting. A plain white flag is also the blank canvas for a school art project, a protest banner, fabric paint or a stencil, and a plain flag in a club’s colour is the cheap way to fly those colours without a crest. Club-colour chequered flags are on the chequered flags page.

Sizes, grades and fittings

The core colours of red, white, blue, black and yellow run from 20x12in through 3ft x 2ft and 5ft x 3ft to 8ft x 5ft; green, orange, pink and purple come in 3ft x 2ft, 5ft x 3ft and 8ft x 5ft; and the remaining shades are stocked in 3ft x 2ft and 5ft x 3ft. The standard flag is the Flagtex woven-polyester grade with brass eyelets, with a lighter Flagtex Nylon option on the main colours; red, white, blue, black and yellow are also stocked in the heavier knitted DuraFlag grade with double-stitched hems and a choice of clips or rope and toggle for a permanent pole, and the white and the choose-a-colour listing offer a sleeved finish for slotting over a pole without a halyard.

Plain bunting

Single-colour bunting comes in red, white, blue, black, yellow, green, orange, pink and purple, as rectangular pennants sewn to a tape in 3m and 9m lengths, with the plain white also available in 5m, 12m and 20m and in a triangle cut. Mix two or three colours along a street or a marquee to match a school, a club or a wedding, or hang white alone for a village fete, a tea party or a garden wedding.

Hand flags, table flags and car flags

Plain coloured hand flags on wooden sticks in 9x6in and 18x12in are sold singly in every stock colour, so a sports day can have exactly the number it needs per house. The plain table flags with base are the 6x4in desk flags for colour-coding conference tables, teams at a quiz or a hackathon, and come in red, white, blue, green, yellow, orange, pink and purple. The plain white car flag clips to a window for a convoy, a wedding car or a marshal’s vehicle.

Plain flag FAQs

What colours do the plain flags come in?

Seventeen stock shades: red, white, blue, black, yellow, green, orange, pink, purple, navy blue, sky blue, teal, turquoise, cerise, maroon, gold/khaki and neon green.

Which sizes are available in each colour?

Red, white, blue, black and yellow run from 20x12in to 8ft x 5ft; green, orange, pink and purple go from 3ft x 2ft to 8ft x 5ft; the other shades are stocked in 3ft x 2ft and 5ft x 3ft.

Can I use these as motorsport marshal flags?

Yes, the 20x12in and 3ft x 2ft red, yellow, green, blue, black and white flags are the sizes clubs and circuits buy for marshal posts and start lines. Check your governing body’s rules for any required dimensions.

Can I paint or print my own design on a plain flag?

The plain white flag is woven polyester and takes fabric paint, marker and stencils well for school projects and banners.

Is plain bunting available in more than 9m?

Plain white bunting goes up to 20m and is also cut as triangles; the other colours come in 3m and 9m and can be joined end to end.

Are plain flags the same colour on both sides?

Yes, the cloth is dyed a single solid colour throughout, so both faces are identical.

How fast can plain coloured flags arrive?

All of these are stocked in and dispatched from our Stoke-on-Trent warehouse; order before 2pm and they leave the same day with free 1–2 day UK delivery.
