Oktoberfest and Bavaria: the flags that make the tent
The Oktoberfest flag is the lettered one, stocked in 20x12in, 5ft x 3ft at £7.99 and 8ft x 5ft at £19.99 in Flagtex, with a 150gsm DuraFlag in 20x12in at £14.99 and 5ft x 3ft at £39.99 for a pub that runs the festival every year. The Bavarian flags are what the Munich tents actually fly: the Bavaria Crest flag, blue and white lozenges with the lion-and-shield arms, in 20x12in to 8ft x 5ft from £6.99 in Flagtex or DuraFlag, and the Bavaria no Crest flag, the plain lozenge pattern, in 3ft x 2ft at £6.99 and 5ft x 3ft at £7.99. Hang the crest flag at the entrance and the plain lozenges along the sides, and the room reads as Bavarian without a word of German.
Bunting for a beer tent
Three buntings cover the lengths. Oktoberfest triangle bunting in 5m at £11.70 or 20m at £24.58 is the blue-and-white pennant string for the roof of a marquee; Bavaria Crest bunting comes in rectangle or triangle from 3m to 20m, £9.98 to £24.99; and Bavaria no Crest bunting is the plain lozenge in 3m and 9m. A 20m length does one side of a 10m marquee and back, so most tents want two.
Tables, hands and the bar
The Bavaria Crest table flag and the no-crest table flag are the 6x4in flags with a base at £1.98 to £4.99 for the long tables, and the Bavaria hand flags at £5.99 go to the oompah band and the stein-holding contest. The German national flag and the other state flags are under Germany flags, and a beer flag or an Una Cerveza Por Favor flag is under other celebrations.
When Oktoberfest runs
The Munich festival runs for just over two weeks from late September into the first weekend of October, and British pubs, breweries and social clubs stage theirs on any weekend from mid-September to the end of October. Order from our Stoke-on-Trent warehouse before 2pm and the flags leave the same day with free 1 to 2 day UK delivery, so a Thursday order is up for the Saturday night.
Oktoberfest flag FAQs
What is the difference between the two Bavaria flags?
The crest flag carries the Bavarian coat of arms on the blue-and-white lozenges; the no-crest flag is the lozenge pattern alone. Munich flies both; the plain one is cheaper and better for lining a room.
Which size for a marquee or a beer tent?
5ft x 3ft on the entrance and the bar back, bunting along the ridge and the sides, and 8ft x 5ft only if there is a pole or a gable to take it.
Is the Oktoberfest bunting triangle or rectangle?
The Oktoberfest bunting is triangle pennants in 5m and 20m; the Bavaria Crest bunting is available in both shapes and the Bavaria no Crest bunting in rectangle.
Do you have a DuraFlag for outdoor use?
Yes, the Oktoberfest and Bavaria Crest designs come as 150gsm DuraFlags with clips or rope and toggle, for a brewery or a pub pole that flies them all season.
When is Oktoberfest?
Late September to early October in Munich, with the exact dates changing each year; UK events run through September and October.
Where is the German flag?
Under Germany flags, with the Berlin, Hamburg and other state flags, in the same sizes and grades as the Bavarian flags here.
