DuraFlags – Heavyweight 150gsm Flags for Daily Flying on Exposed Poles

DuraFlag is our heavier grade: 150gsm knitted polyester with double-stitched hems, sold with clips for a telescopic pole or a rope and toggle for a halyard. It is the flag for a school, a council building, a pub frontage or a garden pole where the flag stays up all year. The Union Jack, St George and rainbow are the biggest sellers, and every design in this section is a dedicated DuraFlag: heavy-duty knitted polyester, double-stitched hems, with clips or rope and toggle.

What a DuraFlag is, and when it is worth the extra

A standard Flagtex flag is printed woven polyester at £7.99 for a 5ft x 3ft; a DuraFlag of the same design is 150gsm knitted polyester at £39.99 in that size. The knitted cloth is denser, the hems are double-stitched and the inks are UV-stable, so the flag holds its shape and its colour through a winter on an exposed pole where a lighter flag would fray at the fly within a season. If a flag goes up for a weekend, a tournament or a street party, buy Flagtex; if it flies every day at a school, a yacht club, a council office, a hotel or a house with a proper flagpole, buy the DuraFlag and expect it to outlast several standard flags.

Sizes and prices

The common DuraFlag sizes are the 20x12in courtesy flag at £14.99 (for a boat, a car or a short garden pole), 3ft x 2ft at £29.99, 5ft x 3ft at £39.99 and 8ft x 5ft at £99.99. The Union Jack and a few other core designs also come in traditional yard sizes for ceremonial and halyard poles: half-yard at £11.99, three-quarter-yard at £17.99, one yard at £34.99, one-and-a-half yard at £44.99, two yard at £54.99 and three yard at £109.98. Every product in these DuraFlag sections is a dedicated DuraFlag page, so the size and fitting choices you see are all heavy-duty knitted DuraFlags.

Clips or rope and toggle?

Clips are the snap-hook fitting used on telescopic and most modern garden poles, hooked onto the rings at the top and bottom of the pole. Rope and toggle is the traditional halyard fitting, a toggle at the top and a rope at the bottom that tie onto the pole's own halyard, and is what a yacht club, a church tower or a council building with a fixed pole wants. Both fittings are offered on most designs; the 20x12in courtesy size is rope and toggle only.

DuraFlag FAQs

What is the difference between Flagtex and DuraFlag?

Flagtex is the standard printed woven polyester; DuraFlag is a heavier 150gsm knitted polyester with double-stitched hems, roughly five times the price in 5ft x 3ft and built for a flag that flies every day.

How long does a DuraFlag last outdoors?

It depends on the site: a sheltered garden pole will see years, a coastal clifftop much less. As a rule a DuraFlag flown daily outlasts a standard flag flown the same way several times over; turning a flag for the worst weather extends any flag's life.

Which fitting do I need for a telescopic pole?

Clips. The telescopic poles sold here have rings at the top and bottom that the clips hook onto.

Which fitting do I need for a halyard pole?

Rope and toggle. The toggle slips into the loop on the halyard and the lower rope ties off, which is the fitting a fixed pole at a school, a club or a public building normally takes.

Where do I find the DuraFlag version of a design?

Right here: every product in the DuraFlag sections is a dedicated DuraFlag (heavy-duty 150gsm knitted polyester, double-stitched, clips or rope and toggle), so there is no grade to pick. Many designs are also offered as a DuraFlag option on the standard flag page.

Can I get a DuraFlag of a design you do not stock?

Yes, through the custom flag service, printed in the EU to your artwork; send the file and we will quote.

Do DuraFlags come in 20x12in?

Yes, as the courtesy DuraFlag at £14.99 with rope and toggle, used on boats and short poles.
